Bruno Miguel Mascarenhas Antunes nasce a Lisbona il 16 luglio 1981, ma è Roma a diventare la sua casa e il canottaggio la sua vocazione.

Trasferitosi in Italia nel 1991, inizia a vogare al Circolo Canottieri Roma, dove scopre il talento che lo porterà a diventare uno degli atleti più rappresentativi del canottaggio italiano.
Nel 1999 conquista il suo primo oro mondiale juniores per il Portogallo, ma è con la maglia azzurra che scrive le pagine più memorabili della sua carriera.
Dopo aver ottenuto la cittadinanza italiana nel 2002, viene convocato in nazionale e vince l’oro ai Mondiali Under 23.
Seguono anni di successi: medaglie ai Mondiali, titoli europei e, soprattutto, il bronzo olimpico ad Atene 2004 nel quattro senza pesi leggeri – la prima medaglia italiana nella specialità.

Mascarenhas ha partecipato anche alle Olimpiadi di Pechino 2008 e ha vinto l’oro mondiale nell’otto pesi leggeri a Poznań nel 2009. Ritiratosi nel 2011, ha continuato a servire il canottaggio come direttore tecnico e commentatore Rai, diventando voce autorevole e appassionata del suo sport.

Autore di libri come Cinque cerchi olimpici e Commando, è stato insignito del titolo di Cavaliere al Merito della Repubblica Italiana e della Medaglia d’Oro al Valore Atletico.

 Bruno Miguel Mascarenhas Antunes was born in Lisbon on July 16, 1981, but Rome became his true home, and rowing his life’s calling.
After moving to Italy in 1991, he began rowing at Circolo Canottieri Roma, where he discovered the talent that would make him one of the most accomplished Italian rowers of his generation.
He won his first Junior World Championship gold medal for Portugal in 1999, but it was under the Italian flag that he would write his most defining achievements.
After obtaining Italian citizenship in 2002, he joined the national team and won gold at the U23 World Championships.
The following years brought further triumphs: World Championship medals, European titles, and above all, the Olympic bronze in the lightweight men’s four at Athens 2004 – Italy’s first medal in the category.

Mascarenhas also competed at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and secured gold at the 2009 World Championships in Poznań with the lightweight men’s eight. Retiring in 2011, he continued to serve the sport as a technical director and RAI commentator, becoming a passionate and authoritative voice in Italian rowing.

Author of books such as Cinque cerchi olimpici and Commando, he was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and the Gold Medal for Athletic Valor.
Today, Bruno Mascarenhas stands as a living symbol of sportsmanship and civic values – a role model of dedication, team spirit, and love for sport.
